Jay Shah confirms to The Indian Express: ‘Entire IPL 2024 will happen in India’ despite Lok Sabha elections

The elections will be held in seven phases starting on April 19 with the counting of votes taking place on June 4. The BCCI faced a similar situation in 2019 during the general elections, but in India, the IPL was held.

While announcing the first schedule of 21 IPL games from March 22 to April 7, Shah had said in a press release that the BCCI would soon finalize the schedule for the remaining part of the tournament.

“The BCCI will, as in the past, work closely with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India, following all necessary protocols and advice with government and security agencies.

Once the Lok Sabha election dates are announced on the 18th, the Board will review and resolve any issues related to the schedule of the first two weeks. The BCCI will work closely with local authorities to finalize the schedule for the remainder of the season, keeping the voting dates in mind thereafter, Shah said.

IPL teams have started their preparations and players have started joining their respective teams. The opening match of the season on March 22 will be played between defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore and Super Kings in Chennai.
