Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Indian cricket team’s star batsman Virat Kohli received a warm welcome from the fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the RCB Unbox event on Tuesday.
Kohli has been a royal part of the Challengers Bangalore franchise. Over the years, since the first IPL season in 2008, fans have honored him with the nickname ‘King Kohli’.
However, Kohli told host Danish Sait and fans during the event that he feels embarrassed when they don’t call him ‘King’ even when he hears it. He even revealed the conversation he had with Faf du Plessis on this topic.
“We have to reach Chennai very early in the night today. A charter flight we have, so we don’t have too much time .”
Firstly stop calling me the word(king) “. Please call me Virat. Don’t call me that word (King), Faf du Plessis I was just saying that when you call me that word If so, I feel embarrassed every year.”, Kohli said, So just say call me Virat, please from Now don’t use that word it’s a humble request to all, it’s very embarrassing for me.
Starting from March 22nd, Kohli hoped to emulate Royal Challengers Bangalore Women’s WPL winning feat and add an IPL trophy to the team’s cabinet in the upcoming edition of the league.
Royal Challengers won their second title in this edition of the Women’s Premier League by defeating Delhi Capitals on Sunday, but their male counterparts have been waiting for the moment for the title for the last 16 years.
The RCB Unbox Event
Kohli said during the RCB Unbox event, “It was amazing. We were watching it (WPL) when they won it. Hopefully, we can double it with the trophies and it will be something special.”
Kohli, who will start his 17th season with RCB in IPL 2024, said he will rely on experience and his skills to turn his dream of winning the IPL trophy into a reality this year.
It’s my dream to know what it’s like to win an IPL trophy. I will be here, for the first time to be a part of the team that wins the trophy. “I will try my best, my abilities with my experience to be able to do that for the franchise and the fans. To happen,” the former RCB captain said.
RCB has never won the IPL title since the tournament’s inception in 2008. On the other hand, CSK has five titles.
